The Japanese Language Proficiency Test, or JLPT, is administered only once per year and is taken by about 380,000 (1995 figures) non-native speakers of Japanese each year worldwide. The test is divided into four levels (1-4), with Level 1 being the most difficult. The Level 1 has a pass rate of only 29%.

After 4 years of university study of Japanese in my native country, I doubt I would have passed anything beyond Level 3 of the JLPT upon graduation. However, using the techniques I share with you below, I studied for and passed Level 1 of the JLPT on the first try after just 15 months of additional study (while working full time). This success was due not to any innate linguistic talent of mine but rather to having worked out ways of studying smart. Here is what I found works best:

Tip #1: Buy and use blank note cards religiously: I prefer the type that comes in packs of 100 cards and are bound by a single metal ring. When studying for the JLPT, I filled 35 packs of these cards, or the equivalent of 3,500 words and phrases. Carry a pack everywhere you go and write down every word you come across that you do not recognize. This works because the act of writing each kanji or grammatical phrase down goes a long way toward memorizing them. I recommend using these cards over electronic kanji or word dictionaries.

Tip #2: Read the hard stuff every day: Read newspapers, books, and other forms of the written word every day – even if you are studying for the Level 4 test and even if you must spend 30 minutes to get through each sentence. This method is great for becoming familiar with the most commonly-used words and grammar quickly, and you will soon lose your fear of difficult texts.

Tip #3: Read aloud: Language leverages different parts of our brain depending upon whether we are reading, writing, speaking, or listening. By reading aloud, it is a very efficient way to exercise the word recognition and the speaking centers of your brain at the same time.

Tip #4: Speak with as many types of people you can: If you have the opportunity to visit or live in Japan while studying for the test, take the opportunity to speak with every Japanese person you meet: old, young, men, women, teachers, businesspeople, artists, economists, the local fruit vendor: everyone. This reinforces your speaking and listening skills much more than just speaking with the same 2 or 3 people each day because you become less dependent upon their individual habits and favorite phrases.

Tip #5: Look up in a dictionary every single word you do not recognize: Treat every word you come across that you do not know as a gold nugget: write it down on one of your blank, ringed note cards (see Tip #1). Once you have filled your pack of cards, attack the cards regularly, testing yourself along the way. Keep going through the pack, removing the cards you master until there are none left. Then, review the whole pack again.

Protecting Your Home: Home Security Installation

Home security system installation is another means of protecting your possessions that you value and the people you love the most at home. Alarm systems are very much popular nowadays. Today’s Alarm systems range from wired home alarm systems to wireless home alarm systems, from “do-it-yourself” alarm systems to a more sophisticated and highly advanced alarm systems.

Home alarm systems prevent any burglar attempts in your home or fires. In most alarm systems (especially the more advanced ones), the control box of the system activates a loud noise (most of the time a siren), flashing lights and an auto dialer that automatically dials an emergency number (like 9-1-1). This alerts the owners or the occupant of the house and the police that an intruder or intruders have or has broken into the house or alerts the occupant or the fire department that the house is on fire.

An auto dialer calls the police or fire department or an emergency number play then plays a recorded message which gives away the address of the house. Some auto dialer calls the security company that installed the alarm system and then the security company will then call the police or fire department or an emergency number and relay the information them. Some auto dialer even calls the cellular phone of the owner of the house if the owner is away on vacation or at work. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Magic Words To Get Ex Back…

Are there really ‘magic’ words you can use to get your ex to return your phone calls?

Sounds hard to believe but there ARE words that will nearly cast a spell and make your ex feel almost compelled to return your call.

I am going to share this with you because this is one of the biggest questions I get from the over 35,000 subscribers just like you that are trying to put their relationship back together. So I am going to answer…”How do I get my ex to return my phone call, text or IM?” BUT…

WARNING!

In the Magic Of Making Up, I lay out a complete strategy. If you use this technique alone, without an ‘overall’ plan or strategy… you may damage your relationship more than if they never returned your call.

What NOT to Say!

Before we get into the actual words, let’s go over what message almost NEVER works and worse… Puts you in an awful ‘psychological’ position. These usually fall into 2 categories. [Read the rest of this entry...]

Acne Home Remedies

Acne, for centuries, has become the most treated skin condition. Many people certainly seek for particular ways to prevent acne from forming and to eliminate it in the end, perhaps due to the mental agony it brings and its impact to the person’ self esteem. A common phenomenon today appears that most people suffering of acne often ask help from a dermatologist who almost prescribes antibiotics and some over-the-counter products that are proven for certain unfavorable side effects.

Knowing that a number of over-the-counter acne remedies have their side effects, making them much hazardous than effective, it is somehow interesting to know that certain acne home remedies are now widely recommended for treating acne. Some of these acne home remedies need to be prepared at home, while some are readily available for use.

One of the most commonly suggested acne home remedies today is the Colloidal silver. It is actually one of the effective natural acne home remedies that are deemed as antibiotic. You can take it orally and some experts recommend this form of acne home remedies to be applied directly on the affected area for a much better result. It can be mixed with water or juice; however, it is very necessary to note that it is a dietary supplement and is not intended for medicinal use. [Read the rest of this entry...]
